College Decision Time.
In life you have to make many decisions, some of them affect your future; choosing which college is right for you in one of those decisions. After visiting about a dozen different schools i have brought it down to Muskingum University and Ohio University. Both of these schools offer my major and have good/bad things about them. As for the pros of Muskingum University; i would be allowed to do sports, be in a sororiety and have a lock on getting into the nursing program my sophomore year. The cons of this institution is that it is an older school so it is not exactly stae of the art, also it offers less choices for me when i decide which language i would like to minor in. A last problem with this school is that thier mascot is a pink fish. (I know that shouldnt be a deciding factor.) Pros of Ohio University are that it is very culturally diverse so i would be able to study abroad. Another thing is there is something about thier campus that some have described to me as "magical". I agree with this statement. It is a place where when you are there you feel good about yourself. Cons of this school is that it has a very large campus and im not used to such a huge student body. Also there is no garuntee of me making it into the nursing program the following year because if you do not meet certain criteria; your out. At first i was all OU all the way but than i began to get my doubts. What if i get there and i dont make it? Is the crazy party scene really for me? Will i even be able to afford this institution considering the costs of transportation to clinicals and the 2 and a half hour drive just to get there? With Muskingum the clinicals are only ten minutes away, with Ohio University the clinicals are an hour and 15 minutes away. Im still debating. One thing that i know in the back of my head is that no matter which school i choose im going to regret it because im going to dwell on the other factors that the other college offers. But i think thats part of life, you have to make decisions even if they are hard and you have no idea how the future will turn out. But i do know whichever school i will go to i will make friends and i will try my hardest to accomplish anything i set my head to.

-This book titled "High Noon" has very interesting points and at the same time has very dry ones. It talks alot about the economy and the future of the economy. I like the graphs and that it has reference numbers so you can go and look up what they are talking about in the back of the book. I like that it talks about everything ranging from food production to the over population that has occured in several countries.

While comparing the pros and cons of different ways to generate energy I found many different things. The first way of electricity I explored was that of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels have been used for years, so we know they are dependable. Also they provide jobs and are easy to use. Negative things about using fossil fuels is that they are expensive, when I first started driving gas was 2 dollars, in less than a year it hit 4. I am thankful that it went back down but it still does not have a steady cost to it. A couple more negative things about it is that it is hard to obtain, it can be sometimes dangerous and we know that someday it will run out. My conclusion on this way of generating energy is that it’s okay for right now, but we need to find a better way. The next way I observed was wind power. Wind power is one of the new ways of obtaining energy, one thing that is good about it is that it is good for the environment. Another thing is that it is practically free since there is no tax on wind…yet. Some bad things about it are that it is very time consuming and the wind is not always predictable of dependable. What if there is barely any wind for a month? Does that mean we just don’t get electric? My conclusion on this is that we need to perfect this energy source, we should look more into it. The last way of electric energy I looked into is that of solar. The positives of solar power match to that of wind power: its good for the environment, its free, and its easy. But the negatives are also there. It can be very time consuming and isn’t always dependable, say a cloudy day happens? My conclusion on this is the same as my conclusion on wind power, we need to look more into it.
-Use Rossetta Stone software to study a foreign language.
For my rosetta stone language i chose Hindi. Ever since i was like five i have been obsessed with the Indian culture. To me it is more of the most diverse and fasinating in the word. It is a very difficult language and so far ive ran into about 20 technological problems which results in things such as my computer shutting down or me losing sound for about 3 days... but i dont regret taking this course. I really wanted to study Hindi in college as a minor but since i made my college decision and im officially going to be a fighting Muskie, i wont be able to. They only offer spanish and french. But i would like to continue learning this language and maybe after i get out of college and i am an RN i can take classes in it to get a degree in it. I would than like to travel there and do some volunteer work
-Listen to an iTunes college level lecture and write a reaction paper.
For one of my activities I listened to an ITunes U podcast. The one I listened to was named Biology-How your body affects your thoughts, by Todd Daniel. The first 10 minutes of the 40 minute lesson was just them introducing the speaker and saying what kind of degree he has and where he teaches and everything like that. (This is something that you probably need for credibility reasons but to me it just drowned out for an incredibly long time) But after it got past the introduction I think it was a pretty good lecture. I actually have several of these itunes U on my ipod and some of them the speakers are kind of crackly or they just sound like they hate life. But this guy was pretty good. He had a way of speaking that makes you pay attention and he made what he was saying interesting. He talked a lot about how neurons gossip and send messages along the dendrites and the axons. He compared the transmission to a key and lock.
I think that itunes U is a fantastic invention. For one thing; its free. This makes it accessible to almost anyone at any stage of life. And I love how many different topics there are that you can learn about. I think that these would be great to use in college if you have a certain class on something and you want to just learn a little bit more about it. And it’s great for if you are driving or working out because you can just download a free lesson and listen to it in your free time when it wouldn’t be exactly easy to study.
The only bad thing I can think about itunes U is that it is not very easy to remember all of the information. If you want to take it extremely serious than your going to have to listen to it several times or take notes on it as if you were in a real lecture hall. Another thing wrong with it is that different schools teach different things in each class. It’s not very likely that you are going to attend an institution that actually records itunes U and posts them on the internet. So itunes U is an addition to your education not a replacement for going to class.
Speak to a group of students in the 8th and or 9th grade regarding the importance of attendance, course offerings, and GPA in high school.
completed: 25th and 29th I think talking to the 8th graders helped me reflect on my high school career. When I entered freshman year I didn’t care about anything. Grades didn’t matter to me, only having fun did. And then sitting at my brothers graduation I had this 360 turnaround way of thinking and I realized that I HAD to care. Since freshman year I have been working my butt off to get my grades back up, I’m glad we got to speak to younger kids about this topic because its really hard to start from the ground and work your way up.
Geocaching April 2nd. I have been running on the bike path for about 5 years now and I never realized that there were little hidden objects everywhere. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as geocaching. It amazes me that there was three items (not going to state where) that were THAT close to each other. Its something I plan on looking more into. http://www.geocaching.com/

A New Amendment to the Constitution: To grant protections to unborn children.
I researched many possible amendments to the constitution. One that I found very interesting was regarding unborn children’s rights. People have tried to pass laws about prohibiting abortion for many years now and I think that actions should be taken. In my personal opinion I think an abortion should only occur if the pregnancy would result in the death or either the child or the mother. I think that if you chose to do something such as sex, than you need to make a stand and take responsibility for your actions. And I know that this is a hazy subject, because some people are not ready to have kids, or they were raped. But I am a strong believer in adoption and in giving a child to a family who cannot produce them themselves. My grandma was actually adopted, and the family that took her in as their own are probably the best there is.
I believe that the rights of unborn children should be of the following.
1.) If the mother smokes or drinks and she knows that she is pregnant, she should be punished.
2.) Abortions are only acceptable to those who it would result in a death for.
3.) There should be clinics opened to help people who are unsure of having children.
Remember: Your future is in your childs hands.
I chose to do a multimedia slide show on abuse. I chose this topic because after taking the self deffense class that East Knox offers, i realized how much really goes on. It really opened my eyes to parts of the world around me that is not so pretty. In my powerpoint i included a song that was in the movie Enough, which is about spousal abuse. I also included several facts and statistics about spousal abuse. I think it is something that we should all be a little bit more aware about.
